Lady Vikings wins over Lady Eagles!!
April 29, 2009 By Nathan Miller of North Wilkes High School
On a sunny day, the North Wilkes host Surry Central for a MVAC game.
Surry Central started off on the board to take a 1-0 lead going to bottom of third inning went North answer to score 3 runs to make it 3-1 North.
The Lady Eagles close in to make it 3-2 ball game until 4th inning. Surry takes the lead on four runs in top of 5th to make it 6-3 SC. North Wilkes power back to score 2 runs to make it 6-5 SC.
North Wilkes defensive held Lady Eagles in top of 6th. Lady Vikings tied the game up at 6-6 in bottom of 6th inning.
The Lady Eagles was going to score in top of seventh, but failed with two pop-ups and a ground out to second base with runners left on second and third.
Going to bottom of seventh still tied at 6-6 and last at bat for North. First batter pop-up to right field for the first out. Second batter, ripped a line drive to left-center field for a double.
North third batter comes to the plate for a Surry Central error to put runners on 1st and second. Fourth batter strike-out to record second out for the Vikings. People though this game was heading to extra innings, but next batter has heart of gold hit a line drive to left field to loaded the bases.
With two out and bases loaded, Vikings 6th batter stands in to take a first pitch that was a ball, next pitch count 2-0, then 3-0, finally count 3-1, then a full count. Very next pitch was a ugly part of the game for the Eagles, final pitch was a ball to score a run for North.
Final North-7 Surry Central-6 on a bases loaded walk!! North Wilkes record stands at 5-11(3-7) while Surry Central drop to 5-11(2-8)
Junior Varsity game was called in second inning cause of lighting with a 30 minute rule, it would been called anyways cause of darkest. Surry was up 4-0!!
North Wilkes will have a rest day until North host North Surry on Friday. |
